The choice of DH bikes was driven mostly by cost and that brought me to the Commencal Furious or the YT Tues. Being a Commencal owner and having had exceptional customer service interactions with them I was really leaning to the Furious. Price difference was in the $100-200 range. I created a spreadsheet of spec's and "tallied" things up. They came out pretty much even. The Tues seemingly had some better components but is a 7 speed vs a 9 and those 2 extra gears would be very handy at most of the Parks I ride at. The geometry was basically the same but the Furious seemed to be slightly more pedal friendly and maybe a little more playful and easier to manage for jumps and technical where as the YT specs seems more geared to stability and speed. This all assumption based on my reading and logic. As we neared Black Friday YT dropped the price to an amazing $2099 and that made my decision an easy one to make. Boom Done! I only slight hesitation was if the Furious dropped as well I would probably be a little bummed and it did. It was really a coin flip toss up anyway so at least the agony of a decision was over.
One to the Bike! It is beautiful, its beastly and it will be a blast! With a combination of Race Face, E-Thirteen and Sram parts it is very well spec'd for money. The bike arrived 3 days earlier than the expected date (Whoot) and I took my time building it up and drooling over it. From the factory everything was spot on except for the rear brake. I had issues with the Guide R on my Meta and ended up replacing it with a Zee. I bled the brake and there was a substantial amount of air in the lines so I was hopeful that that would give me the lever feel I want. Its not a matter of it not working or feeling squishy now that the air is out of the line but the bite point is just to close to the bar. I played around with it for a while and even bled it second time but it still feels the same. I may upgrade the lever to the RCS which has bite point adjustment. With a quick ride down to the local playground I got a tiny taste of what it feels like. It feels plush and I expect it will be a faster ride and gentler on the body. I am hoping with the GF riding a big DH rig that she will get more laps in at the DH Parks.
