Kingdom Trails

After years of hearing about how awesome Kingdom is and having had it on my to do list for the past few I finally made the trip!  Kingdom riding is EASY, the most challenging trails, their double blacks are Blue trials at most of the places I have ridden. There is very very little that I would consider technical riding. There are no rocks, it can be a little rooty but the majority of the bump comes from braking bumps in the berms. This should in NO way discourage you from going and have a blast. The trails are fun as hell. Jennifer and I rode almost all the "best" trails and a bunch of others and had a great time. The Best were fun, flowy and usually had some sections of fast down with well built berms. The "others" were pretty good too. The views are awesome and we had pretty much perfect weather, a little chilly maybe but beautiful.  Riding trails in the right direction can make the difference between a great trail and a suffer fest. Some are directional which helps. Most areas we found ourselves doing a lot of climbing to either get back to the top for another blast down or simply a lot of long climbs and quick descents into another long climb. Being Columbus weekend it was pretty busy but with 88 miles of trail only the most popular trails seemed a bit crowded.
Now as I started to jones for something a little more challenging I took a late day drive up to the top of Burke Mountain on the $5 toll rode, which can be shuttled for $5 a lap or $15 a day. I took a lap down Rude Awakening into Camptown. Wow I was satisfied!! Rude Awakening was rough, muddy, steep, gnarly, steep and perfect on my trail bike. It had some fun fast sections and a lot of rock!!! It was sooooo good. Camptown was fast and rough and ton of fun. Next time I am in Northeast Kingdom I will be spending the majority of my time on Burke Mtn. I do get the impression that the enduro/trail bike is the best choice for riding the mtn and that a full on DH rig is not the best choice.
Kingdom has definitely made it on my list of weekend destinations. I think a day at Burke and day at Kingdom would make for a pretty sick weekend.

Old Forge NY - McCauly Mtn and Maple Ridge

Old Forge riding is of two halves, the tech trails are pretty awful with nothing challenging or interesting and the flow jump trails are pretty awesome. The tech trails are mostly made up of awkward cross country pedal fest with tight turns and up down up down riding. The flow trails are pretty well built with decent flow and the jumps while not perfect at trail speeds are fun and have potential for creativeness and some stylish riding.
