Vietnam - Best Place I have Ridden

Vietnam is located in Milford MA which is a 3+hour drive for me. The signage is pretty terrible, the parking is a little vague (might be good but not well published).  Most of the trails are missing from trail forks and the map at the NEMBA is all but useless because it does not include a lot of whats out there. Meaning you cant ride from a starting location and say ok next right is X trail because there are 7 trails not on the map before you get to X trail. So why is this place the best of I have ridden?
I has everything I want in a riding area. Some flowly lines, lots of chunk, rock rollers, sick steep rollers, jumps, big jumps, gaps, big gaps, drops and big drops and BIG BIG DROPS.  There is some elevation but nothing bad. Alt lines everywhere.

Vietnam Milford Mass. Best place is have ridden!!! It has everything from awesome chunk, flow, sick rollers, jumps, doubles and drops of all sizes from sweet 3 footers to 10+. Place is amazing. #mtbbeta #mtblife #besttrails #vietnam #milfordma #jump #gapjump #drops ## #whipsfordays #youtubechannel

As some of you may have heard, this week YouTube announced some big changes to their partner program which allows creators, like me, to make money from our videos through advertisements. As a result of those changes I, and many other small mountain bike channels you might enjoy, are no longer eligible to be part of that program. I’m going to talk a little about those other channels and how you can help in a little bit, but first I’m sure you are wondering; “Why does that matter to me? Advertisements suck!”, and you know you what, you’re 100% right. Advertisements do suck. They suck for you and they suck for me. To date I’ve only earned $82 dollars of revenue from YouTube advertisements. That’s a buck fifty per video I’ve created. Worse, I haven’t actually been able to put that money back into the channel, because YouTube won’t cut a check until I hit $100 dollars of earned revenue. And that’s an important thing I want to point out. I’m not looking to make it rain with sweet, sweet Google coin, but I would like to offset the costs of creating these mostly ok riding videos that seem to bring many of you joy in your life. For example, I would LOVE to have some extra money towards the purchase of a drone to get a different perspective of our majestic New England trails. So what can we do? Well, we have a few options: If by February 20th we can get our subscriber count above 1,000 AND get a lot more eyeballs on our videos, totaling over 4,000 hours of watch time in the past year, then we can meet the new requirements and continue to place annoying ads before our videos. Yay? A few of us, NoFrontBrakes, MikeLikesTrails, and others, which I’ll list below, are going to try and make that happen. As it stands I am short about 200 subscribers and have about 1,000 hours of watch time to go. Everyone is at a different stage, so if you canshare our videos, subscribe if you haven’t already, and go back and watch our videos. If you work in an office, play our videos on your co-workers computers. They won’t mind! Your mom and dad have a google account? Great! Get them subscribed to our stuff. Every little bit counts. But I also want to hear from you. Ultimately I am making these videos for you. You the person watching this video, right now, who gets what we I’m trying to do. To show you trails all around New England so you can get out there and ride. What do you think of advertisement. Do you care? How about merchandise? Other channels make T-Shirts, sell stickers, and other weird stuff. Is that something you’d be interested in me doing? How about Patreon? If just 5 of you pledged $5 a month that would match what I made on my BEST month in advertising. Or how about Bitcoin? Blockchain something something social tokens blah I don’t know let me know in the comments. And please, please go checkout the channels listed below (above). All of these creators are working really hard to share their passion with you and even if we don’t meet the February 20th deadline, at least we can use it as a motivator to propel the entire community forward. Thanks so much for watching all the way to the end. I’ll close us out with a fun little edit I put together this summer that I never got around to finishing. It’s super goofy but this is the stuff we get to do with your support, and hopefully it motivates you to … get out there and ride.

The (DH) Bike

I bought a YT Tues! Truth be told I don't really feel like I need a DH bike, what I wanted was a better ride for the GF. She refused a new bike so hell bent on getting one the next logical step was for me to get a Fat bike for winter or a DH for all the Park riding. As much as I hope to/plan to ride this winter it seemed like a Fat bike would only get me out a few extra days. So I justified my purchase with the idea that 1 - The GF would ride it when we go DHing 2 - It would put less wear and tear on my Meta and allow me to start tuning it for more general riding.
The choice of DH bikes was driven mostly by cost and that brought me to the Commencal Furious or the YT Tues. Being a Commencal owner and having had exceptional customer service interactions with them I was really leaning to the Furious. Price difference was in the $100-200 range. I created a spreadsheet of spec's and "tallied" things up. They came out pretty much even. The Tues seemingly had some better components but is a 7 speed vs a 9 and those 2 extra gears would be very handy at most of the Parks I ride at. The geometry was basically the same but the Furious seemed to be slightly more pedal friendly and maybe a little more playful and easier to manage for jumps and technical where as the YT specs seems more geared to stability and speed. This all assumption based on my reading and logic. As we neared Black Friday YT dropped the price to an amazing $2099 and that made my decision an easy one to make. Boom Done! I only slight hesitation was if the Furious dropped as well I would probably be a little bummed and it did. It was really a coin flip toss up anyway so at least the agony of a decision was over.
One to the Bike! It is beautiful, its beastly and it will be a blast! With a combination of Race Face, E-Thirteen and Sram parts it is very well spec'd for money.  The bike arrived 3 days earlier than the expected date (Whoot) and I took my time building it up and drooling over it. From the factory everything was spot on except for the rear brake. I had issues with the Guide R on my Meta and ended up replacing it with a Zee. I bled the brake and there was a substantial amount of air in the lines so I was hopeful that that would give me the lever feel I want. Its not a matter of it not working or feeling squishy now that the air is out of the line but the bite point is just to close to the bar. I played around with it for a while and even bled it second time but it still feels the same. I may upgrade the lever to the RCS which has bite point adjustment. With a quick ride down to the local playground I got a tiny taste of what it feels like. It feels plush and I expect it will be a faster ride and gentler on the body. I am hoping with the GF riding a big DH rig that she will get more laps in at the DH Parks.
More to come.
In the spring when I get some miles on it I will add some riding info.
