Trail System Review - Mountain Creek Bike Park, Vernon NJ

Mountain Creek Bike Park

I have had limited experience with Mtn Creek, I have made two trips at the time of writing and both of these on opening weekend in spring conditions (2018 & 2019).
Mtn Creek's green freeride trails are well suited to the beginner DH rider with good flow, progressional features such as skinnies, drops, small jumps and a few tables. There are 6 or so green trails that all end with Lower Green Horn. After getting these dialed, moving in to the blue freeride trail Breakout or Indy should be a smooth step up. As you progress on these add Domboo to your runs and finally Alpine with the opening drop, steep wall rides and doubles this trail is getting you prepared to step up to the next level.
Mtn Creek's tech trails are sustained, with long loose and janky rock gardens, awesome features, lots of sketchy sections that will put you OTB or into the woods in the blink of an eye. Starting out on Twist and The Jack will give you a good understanding of just how technical and rough the trails will be. Some of the trails, like Waterboy will seem like it should get an upgrade but once you progress on to the black diamond trails you'll understand why it doesn't. While the tech trails are amazing they can be a little to janky at times and the loose rock and unstable trail can be sketchy as hell. However the raw natural trails here are as good as can be found in the Northeast when you are ready to push your limits.
Its also good to familiarize yourself with the trail map as there are a few blue trails like Outlaw and Bushwhack that will leave you with no other options than to ride black tech trails.
