Trail System Review - Luther Forest, Malta NY

Luther Forest

For a little while Luther Forest was one of my least favorite local spots to ride. The trails are easy and at the time I was deep in "NO CHUNK NO GOOD" mode.  That fortunately didn't last too long and my appreciation for Luther grew. Luther is easy riding, the trails are not technical and there is no chunk at all. What Luther does have is good flowy single track that provides you with an opportunity to have a great ride with some of your less skilled buddies, its a great place to focus on technique and with the work that a few put in over the past few seasons there is now some super fun jump lines. Luther dries out faster than any place else on earth (seriously its the best place to ride after rain).  The Luther trail system is based around a single 3 mile main loop which currently has a few land owner issues. This has resulted in a shorting of the loop and the loss of one of the several off shoot loops but really has had little impact on the riding.
Twist and Turns is an excellent trail to focus on carrying speed and correct body position while turning and its also a fun trail. Chain Whip is a decent extension to Twist and Turns. The jump lines that have been built are making Luther a really great place to learn and expand your jumping skills. There are several short jump lines and some great skill building features.
Luther has a decent size parking lot with more parking across the street. Hikers and dog walkers will be out occasionally.  In the winter months Luther is a popular Fatbike destination. Luther lacks in few little things but it is a Gem for locals and improving every season.
